I started as so many do....

I had just graduated from college in December and had hit 222 pounds. I knew I need to do something about my weight but lacked the motivation. Kept telling myself that I would start tomorrow.

The new year arrived and I stepped on the scale January 1, 2009 and was still at 222 pounds. I looked at myself in the mirror and made a commitment to myself to make a change. For a lack of a better word, a resolution was born. My ideal weight for my height is listed at about 155. That put me at 67 pounds overweight and technically obese. I made a goal to lose 40 pounds by the end of August. That would be 5 pounds per month and just over a pound per week. I convinced myself that this was a reasonable goal and committed myself to it. I knew doing fad diets like Atkins or South Beach would likely bear results but I also knew that I would likely regain the weight as I had done before. The only way I was sure this would work would be eating well balanced meals.

I started search for online calorie counters and trackers and came across http://www.everydayhealth.com and found it to be one stop shopping for all that I was looking for. I could track my weight, all of my nutritional values, even the amount of water I was drinking.

After a day of the tracking I knew that it was going to be effortless and that there would be some worked involved but I also knew that it was worth it. I spent probably close to two hours adding information the first day but saw the amount of time decrease over a course of a couple weeks.

Me Smaller

Welcome to Me Smaller! I have recently lost about 20 pounds in the last 3 months by changing the way I eat and the things I do. I followed no fad diets nor did I "kill myself" doing a fad workout plan. The steps I followed are common sense and seem easy on paper but trust me, the process has not been easy. I continue to fight everyday and still have another 15-20 pounds to lose before I will be comfortable with my body. I have been asked numerous times in the last couple of weeks how I did it and decided to start this blog. Fad diets and exercise programs are not the answer. Changing your lifestyle is! Once you make up your mind to change, you can! The change has to be for you and no one else otherwise you will put the weight back on. I will be making posts of what I did over the last 3 months and what I ate and you will notice that I didn't do anything that seems too hard. All that is needed is commitment and you too can succeed.
